I blinked. Then, she was gone.

I glanced up and saw her in the doorway.
I blinked. Then, she was gone.

When she was five,
I looked down and saw her playing on the floor.
I thought about joining her,
But the Redskins were about to score.

When she was ten,
I glanced up and saw her dancing to a song.
She wanted me to join her,
But I was busy playing Mahjong.

When she was fifteen,
I looked back to see her run out the door.
She was carefree and happy.
A dad couldn’t ask for anything more.

When she was twenty,
She had found a new family of friends.
Maybe there is time to catch up tomorrow.
We can make amends.

Now, she is married.
The child has slipped by and become a bride.
Yes, she has a new life,
But I hope she still feels her father’s pride.

As my daddy told me, and his daddy said before,
Live life in the present because
The past is over and the future will never come.

I blinked. Then, she was gone.
