Things I learned when I got sick

My wife was always there to nurture and protect me.

There are true friends who will stick with you through the hard times.

My first thought was that I’ll miss out on too much.
I found that I what I had done and seen was more than enough to sustain me.

No one suffers fools gladly, even when you are sick.

People expect a can do spirit even when you think you can’t.

You can’t cry in your beer. For one, it sullies the taste; for another, it sullies the spirit.

If people looked to you for strength before, they’ll continue to do so. You must be strong for them no matter how you feel inside.

As times got harder, I looked to the future in smaller increments. At one point, I tried only to make it to the next second. When I could finally see a year into the future, I knew that I could make it.

If desperation sets in and the exterior persona cannot hold up, the inner spirit can still remain strong and overcome.
