Counterpoint to a Utopian Digress

I just read a rant about equality. The author seems to intimate that we humans aren’t equal, nor will we ever be. Well, yes, that is true. But, it’s overstating the obvious.

Of course, we cannot achieve economic equality for everyone on the planet. And, yes, some of us will tend to have accumulated less or more material goods than our neighbors. However, there is much more to life than lamenting the hand we were dealt or puffing out our chests after we have purchased that new BMW.

So, to me, the best course of action is to focus at least some of our attention on the aesthetic side of existence. True equality exists there. That feeling of equalitarianism is manifested in both the abstract processors of the cerebral cortex and the primitive instincts which appear from within the amygdala.

No matter who we are or how much we make, we can still meander outside and feel the full warmth from the sun. We all can find a friend who will comfort us and support us when others turn away. We can relax in the notion that instead of continually struggling against the darkness, we can take one mind step and revel in the purity of the light.

Yes, maybe we aren’t equal in some respects. But, the term equality carries too much baggage with it. Let’s just say that we’re different. We’re no better or no worse than anyone else. We are all unique and we should all be proud of that fact.
